This tour is designed for those who have been birding in Vietnam and Southeast Asia once or several times but missed some key/endemic species or have not visited the sites for such targets.

Designed for experienced Southeast Asia birders who want to target species missed on previous trips, this 17-day Vietnam–Cambodia itinerary concentrates on selected high-value sites rather than repeating a standard first-time route.

This tour is designed for those who have birded in Vietnam and Southeast Asia once or several times but missed some key/endemic species or have not visited the sites for such targets. The guests can request more species based on available at the sites in this itinerary; there are also many other easy species we might encounter throughout the tour.

Itinerary:

Cambodia

  • Day 1: Arrival at Siem Reap Airport

Overnight in Siem Reap city

  • Day 2 (B, L, D): Kampong Thom (Florican grassland) in the morning, then drive to Tmatbouy village

Overnight at Tmatbouy Ecolodge

Targets: Bengal Florican, Manchurian Reed Warbler, Lanceolated Warbler, Chinese Grassbird

  • Day 3 (B, L, D): Tmatbouy

Targets: White-shouldered Ibis, Giant Ibis, Rufous-winged Buzzard, Spotted Wood Owl

  • Day 4 (B, L, D):  Tmatbouy to Kratie

Targets: Mekong Wagtail, Small Pratincole

  • Day 5 (B, L, D): Kratie to Phnom Penh

Morning birding in Kratie, then drive to Phnom Penh for the Cambodian Tailorbird in the afternoon. Tour ends in the evening

Overnight in Phnom Penh city

Vietnam

Those who do the Cambodia part above will take a flight in the early morning from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City to join the Vietnam Trip

  • Day 1 (L, D): Arrive in HCM City, drive to Cat Tien National Park

Pick-up at the airport in Ho Chi Minh City, drive to Cat Tien National Park

  • Day 2 (B, L, D): Cat Tien National Park

Targets: Orange-necked Partridge, Germain’s Peacock Pheasant, Bar-bellied Pitta, Blue-rumped Pitta

  • Day 3 (B, L, D):  Cat Tien National Park, then drive to HCM City for an evening flight to Pleiku

 

  • Day 4 (B, L, D): Mang Den

 

  • Day 5 (B, L, D): Mang Den

Targets: Bar-backed Partridge, Hodgson’s Hawk Cuckoo, Indochinese Green Magpie, Coral-billed Scimitar Babbler, Chestnut-eared Laughingthrush

  • Day 6 (B, L, D):  Mang Den to Ngoc Linh

 

  • Day 7 (B, L, D):  Ngoc Linh

Targets: Coral-billed Scimitar Babbler, Golden-winged Laughingthrush, Red-tailed Laughingthrush, Black-crowned Barwing, Indochinese Fulvetta, Pygmy Flycatcher

  • Day 8 (B, L, D):  Ngoc Linh to Da Nang

 

  • Day 9 (B, L, D): Da Nang to Khe Sanh (Sa Mu Pass)

Targets: Rufous-cheeked Laughingthrush, Indochinese Green Magpie, Moustached Barbet

  • Day 10 (B, L, D):  Sa Mu pass to Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park

 

  • Day 11 (B, L, D):  Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park

Targets: Sooty Babbler, Limestone Leaf-warbler, White-winged Magpie

  • Day 12 (B, L, D):  Phong Nha-Ke Bang to Ninh Binh

 

  • Day 13 (B, L, D): Cuc Phuong National Park

 

  • Day 14 (B, L, D): Cuc Phuong

Targets: Red-collared Woodpecker, White-winged Magpie, Limestone Wren Babbler

  • Day 15 (B, L, D): Cuc Phuong to Tam Dao

 

  • Day 16 (B, L, D): Tam Dao

Targets: Chestnut Bulbul, Grey Laughingthrush, Short-tailed Parrotbill

  • Day 17 (B): Tam Dao to Ha Noi airport

Tour ends in the afternoon

Tour price: USD 4,340/pax

  • Includes: Experienced bird guide and local guides, transportation by private car, accommodation (shared twin room), daily meals and drinking water, local transfer (e.g., boat, jeep, truck), entrance fees. We also provide a birding spotting scope and a bird ID manual;
  • Excluded: International and domestic airfare, personal expenses (e.g., beverages, laundry) and tipping for driver and guide (optional but appreciated), single supplement.
